Hello fellow gamers and game devs! I’m excited to share what I’ve been working on for the past few months. This is a love letter to Nintendo’s original Metroid, released by Nintendo R&D1. Huge thanks to the amazing sprite and sound rippers who made this possible!
While the game looks much like the original, it introduces faster gameplay and brand new mechanics.

The game is a single file without installation. unzip the file and launch the exe.
Windows does launch Windows Defender for unrecognized apps. By clicking More info you can choose to run the game anyway.

I was enjoying it until the second biome. I could not make any progress, constantly dying. Maybe I suck, but I don't think so since I've 100% a ton of rom hacks. So IMO I would lower the difficulty a bit
This is great feedback, thank you! After thinking this through i decided to do an update of the design of Zerth, the second biome.
Did you make it easier? Is the game download on itch updated to the new version?
Yes its easier now. And Yes its now updated and available for download. If you try it out feedback is appreciated.
Ah now I am very confused. Did you change the level design? Every room I need to go and DID go in the last version (my map shows I have been there) is now ability gated by needing to be in ball form... I only have missiles and high jump. So I have no clue where I can go now.
I recommend downloading the latest version of the game even though it will break your save and take you back to the beginning.

I was about to ignore the game because it was gamepad only, but I'm glad I figured that out and gave it a proper chance.

Does the game require a controller? Trying to play in the browser and the game just stays on the title screen no matter what button I press on the keyboard.
Never mind, apparent I just need to read better. Sorry. Will try again on a different machine where I have a controller.Might be worth put the what key are used to control the game on the page or say what is needed. I guess it is possible the browser version just doesn't work.
What would be your prefered keyboard mapping for a controller? I would be happy to implement support for it
I'm not sure what arrangement would be ideal, but I think these keys would at least be workable:
Arrow Keys - Move
Left Shift - Morph
Z - Jump
X - Beam
C - Missile
A - Dash
Enter - Pause
Remappable controls would be ideal, but I'm sympathetic regarding the effort required to implement them.
